Zillow Asks, Why Do We Blog?

Zillowblog Drew Myers over at ZillowBlog posed the same question to several of us real estate bloggers: "What's the biggest business benefit to blogging?"  I am glad I took the time to participate, and I'm even more glad that I took the time to read all of the insightful responses.

The list of respondents is made up of the usual suspects: Jon Ernest, Jay Thompson, Greg Swann, Ardell DellaLoggia, and myself, as well as a couple of new faces: Douglas Doss, Robert Melton.

My consensus:
It seems that there is a common belief among real estate bloggers that knowledge is a business benefit.  I wholeheartedly agree.  I have increased my value as a consultant by leaps and bounds because of the knowledge I have acquired in the 3 short months I have spent reading blogs and hammering away at the Tomato.

I loved the article and nice to see people using the blog platform succeeding online. However, I feel a few important reasons to blog were underrepresented.
1. A blog can generate significant alternative income from AdSense or affiliate shops (Amazon) Realtors I work with like this because it can carry them through lulls in the market.
2. Blogs save money and time on marketing with built in free automated online marketing tools. RSS can be used to drive traffic through syndication on other sites and retain visitors through individual feed subscribes while ping services can directly market the blog to social networks and search engines.
3. This one was kind of touched on but here goes- increases Realtor credibility as an expert in the field. Since people like to business with experts it facilitates conversion.
